You Guys, This is Huge. It's the 25th Anniversary of Dirty Dancing and We Have Baby Herself--Jennifer Grey--Looking Back and Sharing Secrets With Us!
__Glamour: What do you think it is that makes Dirty Dancing so special, twenty-five years later?
JG:__ I think it's about a loss of innocence that only happens once. Everyone remembers their version of it or remembers watching Baby or wished it had been for them the way it was in Dirty Dancing. That time where you actually break away from your relationship with your parents and become an adult and a woman. It's becoming aware of an energy that you have that's been untapped and gives you the ability to be fully alive--a sexually alive, awake adult who is connecting with someone else for the first time. As a first time, it's a very heady, exciting, scary idea. I think that the stakes are so high because of it. Think of it in terms of a metaphor when Johnny says Nobody puts Baby in the corner.' It means you cant go back, you're awake now, you can't go back to sleep. You're awake now.
__Glamour: That's a really powerful way of looking at the movie! Do you ever watch it when it's on TV today?
JG:__ No. If I watch a movie like that all I see is what I could have done better, it's really hard for me to watch. Maybe I can look at it now and say wow, I was really young and really cute.
__Glamour: Did you save anything from the set?
JG:__ I still have my red and white-stripped t-shirt but now it's pink because it's so old.
