As per some allegations, a member of the organising team also misbehaved with Saira, Sonu’s manager.

The attack on the singer was a failed attempt to force him to take a selfie. Apparently, Nigam was heading down the stairs when the incident took place and grew into a feud.

The concert was not attended by Prakash Phaterpekar, who invited Sonu to perform at the Chembur festival. Some well-known performers have already performed at this cultural festival happening in Chembur.

Chembur MLA Prakash Phaterpekar’s son Swapnil Prakash Phaterpekar manhandled singer Sonu Nigama and his team at a live concert in Mumbai and reacting to the incident, Prakash Phaterpekar said that it was a minor scuffle but whatever happened was wrong.

In his statement to police, the singer had alleged that MLA Prakash Phatarpekar’s son Swapnil Prakash Phatarpekar pushed him down the stage, hit his colleagues Hariprakash and Rabbani Khan and made them fall down the stairs and injured them and a case has been registered under IPC sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) on the basis of singer Sonu Nigam’s complaint, the police said.

The Safety Of Celebrities

The event has sparked worries regarding the security of artists who perform in public given that similar incidents are growing more frequent in India. A similar incident happened with singer Kailash Kher before.

During his performance at the Hampi Utsav in Karnataka, singer Kailash Kher also came under criticism. Two young men in their 20s threw a half-filled water bottle at the folk and Sufi artist for singing Hindi songs. The singer claimed that he had already planned out the order of his songs when the men, incensed that he was only performing Hindi music, threw a bottle at him; it narrowly missed hitting his skull.

The event has ignited a crucial conversation about the value of shielding performers and artists from abuse and harassment. Fans of Nigam have also voiced their solidarity and support for the singer, denouncing the MLA’s son’s conduct and urging harsh punishment for them.
