Where Was “The Intruder” Filmed?
Where did they film the house in “The Intruder”?
As we mentioned before, Foxglove is the name of the home in the movie. But what about in real life? The stunning stone home overgrown with foliage will definitely make you ask: where is “The Intruder” filmed?
According to the film’s IMDB page, the home is actually Foxglove Farm and is in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. As reported by Redfin, the 4,188-square-foot house on a 16.55-acre lot was built all the way back in 1918. Last on the market in 2002, it sold for a little over three-quarters of a million dollars!
We’re not sure what Dennis Quaid’s asking price was in the movie, but maybe the Howards got a deal. Keep in mind that Foxglove is private property, so if you search for it, please do not trespass or disturb the current residents.
After hearing they filmed the movie in Canada, you may remember it takes place in Napa Valley, California. Typically, movies aren’t actually filmed in the places where the story is set but in the best place that supports the budget and production.
As for Foxglove Farm, it is conveniently located near Vancouver – one of the world’s biggest film hubs. Some of the latest and greatest movies and television to come out of Vancouver include “Thor: Love and Thunder” and “Criminal Minds.”
Other movies and television shows filmed at Foxglove
Because of its proximity to Vancouver, Foxglove has been in a number of other productions. Chances are you’ve already caught a glimpse of the property somewhere else. When it looked familiar, you asked: where is “The Intruder” filmed?
Hooked on Houses reports that a couple of the other projects produced at Foxglove Cottage include 2015’s “Age of Adaline” and “Riverdale.”
It may come as a surprise that the production made the film without Foxglove already in mind. Hooked on Houses shares a quote from the director about finding it: “We drove all around Canada for the entire day. They said let’s go to one more location. We hadn’t found anything. Then we pulled into this location.”
We think they made the right choice. Many filmmakers only use the outside of a beautiful home as scenery. But in “The Intruder”, we also get to appreciate the gorgeous interior of Foxglove.
Is “The Intruder” based on a real story?
It feels like every time we turn around, there is some kind of new true-crime adaptation on our screens. “The Intruder” certainly feels like it could be a terrifying reality for a new homeowner. It may even make someone think twice before purchasing a new home!
According to RadioTimes, however, the movie is not based on any true event. They share a quote from the writer explaining the inspiration. “In every neighborhood, there’s an older, retired guy who is completely obsessed with his house and his property, and his yard, and he keeps everything in meticulous shape, and it’s a reflection of him. And I thought, what if a guy like this had to give up his property? Would he be able to stay away, or would he have to come back and make sure that the people he sold it to were taking care of it in the way that he needed them to take care of it?”
We’re more relieved than anything to find out this grisly story isn’t real. There are quite enough true stories to keep us up at night!
