“What goes on in their heads when they draw women like this”: Nami’s Physique Upsets One Piece Fans
Over the journey of 27 years, One Piece along with being one of the greatest manga and anime series of all time, has been a victim of a lot of controversies too. Among those controversies, one of them revolves around Eiichiro Oda’s method of drawing a female character in the series.
As the series has been progressing, Oda-san’s way of drawing female characters has also changed slightly, however, the one thing that hasn’t changed is their physique. One of the characters that has been constantly in the talks among One Piece fans for her physique is Nami, the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece.
Although it is not the first instance in the anime industry where female characters are shown with unusual body standards, One Piece has come under the fire of the fans for drawing Nami with unrealistic body parts. This became a huge topic on X and fans were seen being upset with Nami’s physical attributes.
Nami’s Physical Attributes in One Piece
Nami is a petite woman with brown eyes and orange hair who is of average height. She appears to be regarded as an attractive woman by numerous characters and many One Piece fans. Her body changes gradually over the course of the series, before abruptly changing during the time skip and essentially becoming more unrealistic.
Her height has increased marginally, and her hip and bre*st curves have grown significantly, while her waist has contracted significantly more than usual. Even for an animated character, these physical characteristics are implausible. Her waistline and body curves are abnormal for any normal human being, even in a fantasy world like One Piece.
Character designs like these have come under fire for possibly encouraging unhealthy and deceptive ideals of body image. Although fans understand that the character belongs to a fantasy world, creating and promoting such body standards is neither good for the series nor its fans.
One Piece Fans Upset by Nami’s Physique
Recently, a tweet on X gathered One Piece fans’ attention which showed Nami’s physique and how it was totally implausible for any character. Fans were upset to see the creators draw Nami with such unusual and unrealistic body features. Some fans even called out Oda-san for creating such characters and making them look so unrealistic.
The tweet went viral on X and One Piece fans shared their opinions about how these standards are not good for viewers.

One Piece fans have been upset about Nami’s physique because she is not the only one who has such unusual body standards. Other major characters like Nico Robin, Boa Hancock, Vivi and many other share the same unrealistic body features. Fans believe that the almost-invisible waist line and unbalanced body curves are not good for fans and characters alike of the series.
