Watch: “Just witnessed murder” – Social media ERUPTS after watching ‘the worst hit ever’ by Chargers’ Derwin James on Colts’ Ashton Dulin
Derwin James Jr. had an exciting game against the Colts and was on the receiving end of a controversial decision that saw him get ejected from the game in the first half itself. The Chargers‘ safety wasn’t part of the team’s celebration when they made the playoffs for the first time since 2018 after a win against the Colts.
James was penalized for a brutal helmet-to-helmet tackle that left both him and the Colts receiver in concussion protocol. Colts’ Ashton Dulin was running his route and James came in and smashed the receiver that quickly left him on the ground. The tackle was so brutal that many commentators thought they hadn’t seen a tackle of this caliber.
“We’ve watched a lot of football. I don’t know if I’ve seen a hit quite like that,” ESPN analyst Troy Aikman said. The flag was thrown as soon as Dulin hit the ground, and both players were taken to the medical tent for further examination.
James was then discarded from the game due to a foul, as stated by the NFL. However, there also have been many suggestions calling it a harsh call, as James can be seen hitting the shoulder pads first and then colliding with the helmet.
The league is firm with its rules when it comes to concussions and helmet-to-helmet action. The concussions can cause further damage to the athlete, which can even lead to permanent departure from football.
Derwin James Jr’s brutal tackle was met with mixed responses from NFL Twitter
James‘ tackle on Ashton Dulin was the prime example of a physical tackle that the league was previously known for. However, there have been some changes in the modern game since, and players’ health is prioritized the most now.
Derwin James Jr. has always been a physical player and has often been on the cusp of getting ejected. However, this time it came true, and the Chargers’ safety will have to enjoy the game from his living room.
NFL Twitter started debating the incident as many argue that it wasn’t a foul and giving it will take away the charm of the game. However, there’s also the argument that these tackles can damage the athlete and have long-lasting effects on the health which no one wants to see.
Derwin is a dirty player. Remember what he did to Kelce??

Ejecting players for making a football play is excessive, when just the fifteen yards would suffice.

Leading with the helmet. Defenseless receiver. Pretty black and white penalty and ejection. Most of the people posting “clean hit” are either Chargers fans or trolls.

The Chargers have clinched the playoff spot for the first time since 2018. However, they will look to improve on their record as they face the Rams and Broncos in their last two games of the regular season.
