Twitch’s rival platform Kick fires its social media manager after he posted a photo of Island Boys kissing on X
The Island Boys is a TikTok duo who have taken over the internet in the past few years. The two brothers sport numerous tattoos, distinct hairstyles, diamond teeth, and songs about being an “island boy” that got them their rise to fame. They have been involved in numerous controversies that have now gotten a Kick executive fired.
The two boys, Franky and Alex Venegas are two 20-year-old twin brothers who go by the names “Kodiyakredd” and “Flyysoulja,” respectively. The duo claims they thought about entering the rapping scene after they were arrested and spent some time in jail. They have cumulated a total of 6.5 million followers on their TikTok accounts.
Apart from their recent Kick controversy, they have gotten themselves involved in numerous feuds. These include the likes of Jake and Logan Paul and TikTok star Bryce Hall. They even caught the attention of Kevin Hart and Snoop Dogg, who mocked them in their comedy special, “2021 and Done.”
Kick Social Media Manager fired after posting a controversial photo of Island Boys
The official X account of the streaming platform Kick recently posted a controversial photo featuring the Island Boys. The post involved a single photo of the island boys kissing each other. The post had context. It was not replying to a different tweet, and neither did it have a caption explaining what the photo was.
The point of contention was, of course, the post glorifying and publicising incest. The post received a ton of backlash in the replies and other social media. Many commented about how Twitch was busy platforming nudity, whereas Kick was now platforming incest. The post was soon deleted from Kick’s X account.
We apologize for the conduct displayed in our previous post featuring the Island Boys.
Our social media manager has been terminated effective immediately.
— Kick.com (@KickStreaming) January 5, 2024
Shortly following the deletion of the post, Kick made a statement apologising for the conduct displayed in their previous post. They added that the social media manager responsible for the post had been terminated effective immediately. While some fans appreciated the prompt action by the platform, they questioned how such an incident could happen in the first place.
