The Mindy Project's Costume Designer Is Says What Mindy Might Wear to Marry Danny

Glamour: Mindy is in a lot of lingerie this season, so what are you tips for achieving the perfect fit?

Sal: She's in lingerie at least once an episode now. There's a little trick though that costume designers do. We sew bras into the lingerie. There's always a hidden bra. Mindy used to go to bed in a T-shirt or men's pajamas. We'd go to J.Crew and fit men's pajamas for her. I just see such an adorableness to a woman in men's pajamas. And when she did the recent seduction scene with Danny in "I Slipped," she put on a $3,000 La Perla. I think women feel better in it. And when Mindy herself comes in for a fitting, her bra and panties always match. To me, that shows that she cares. She took that extra 90 seconds in the morning to make sure her bra and panties matched, and I always compliment her on that. She says, "Sal, I'm here for a fitting; I had to make sure I had matching bras and panties!" And it's that sort of personal style that I think Mindy has taken from the show. It has become such a natural thing for her. But you also have to have the closet to do it!

Glamour: Should Mindy and Danny ever tie the knot, which kind of wedding dress would you envision Mindy in?

Sal: Before I did movie clothes, I did bridal design. That's how I got my first film. I think Mindy's will be sleek. I think if she does marry Danny, we'd have a big wedding dress montage so we could see the process of it all, but then it's a Vegas wedding in the end!

Glamour: Would the dress have a hint of color to it?

Sal: Maybe a pink sash, but I think it would be the one time we go classic too. I see a full princess gown until Danny says, Can't we just go to Vegas?!' It'll be like the Sex and the City movie when she had the fashion show montage. It's like heroin to see that kind of scene. It's so much fun. Last season in the finale, we had 23 outfit changes, and it was because Mindy said, I can't believe it's the last episode!' and I said, You should write a montage,' and then she did. So I was like, great!' The audience can thank me for that. [Laughs]

Glamour: Is there anything we won't see Mindy wear?

Sal: I used to be able to say no, but not anymore. She doesn't wear pants a lot, but you probably won't see her in pastels or Easter colors, like a mint green or a lavender. That's the one thing that doesn't look good on her.

Glamour: Is there one outfit of Mindy Lahiri's that you just love maybe a little bit more than any other?

Sal: Last year's finale, the plaid and polka dot with the pink tie, I just loved that. And I love that I got to custom-make it.
