The Internet Is Loving Target's Inclusive Easter Ad
Target's new Easter ad is as bright and stylish as the rest of its advertising, but there's a certain part of it that the Internet is going crazy for. In the 30-second spot, set to the tune of Carly Rae Jepsen and Lil Yachty's "It Takes Two," children play with seasonally themed products. Standard enough, but one of the children, Sofia Sanchez, has Down syndrome.
The company has always been conscious of inclusivity in its advertising, a Target spokeswoman told Yahoo! Beauty. When they cast actors, she said, they ask for recommendations that include children who have special needs. In this case, having Sanchez in the ad helps to normalize Down syndrome, dispel stigma, and reassert that she's one of the gang!
The Internet loved the ad when it aired, with lots of positive feedback for Target—and Sanchez:
