The 20 Best Songs of Spring 2014
__14) "Pompeii" by Bastille __
This is another song that has been around for a minute, but didn't reach fever pitch until this year. I'm not sure why it took so long because it has an anthemic sound, and the "Eh-eh-o eh-o" part of the chorus takes on an almost hypnotic effect. Basically, "Pompeii," which is off the band's debut album, is everything I love about synth pop:
13) "I Luh Ya Papi" by Jennifer Lopez
Not gonna lie, the music video is a huge reason why I love this song. There are TONS of hot men in this women-turn-the-table-on-the-men-by-having-scantily-clad-guys-everywhere theme. Looks aside, "I Luh Ya Papi" is pure ear candy and reminds me of the J.Lo hitmaker from 10 albums ago on her debut album. Wow, can you believe she's put out that much work?!
12) "Ain't It Fun" by Paramore
I never thought that Paramore would come out with a song to top their hit "Decode," but they did! And it's probably funkier and more of a danceable track than they have ever done in the history of the band. "Ain't It Fun," which is about entering the real world, is bouncy and shows off Paramore's lighter side, to the dismay of some of the band's fans, who are used to the punk-rock sound. Believe me, Paramore is still putting out edgy music, but I think it's wise and maybe even a little fun for them to switch it up every once in a while:
11) "Sing" by Ed Sheeran
When I first heard this song, I was surprised to hear Sheeran get his Justin Timberlake on. It works here! Sheeran sounds funky, cool, and even a bit seductive. I'm looking forward to hearing what his next single is going to be:
