Temple’s Cherry & White game moving back to campus – NBC Sports Philadelphia
Temple football is moving its Cherry & White game back to campus.
The spring football finale has been scheduled for Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m. at Edberg-Olson Hall, Temple's on-campus practice facility.
We are excited to have our annual Cherry & White Game back at Edberg-Olson Hall, new Temple head coach Matt Rhule said. Our fans will get to see our beautiful, new building while enjoying our final spring scrimmage. Playing on campus will also enhance the experience for our student body which has given us outstanding support. We are looking forward to an exciting day of Temple football.
In 2012, the Owls moved their spring game to Lincoln Financial Field, as the Edberg-Olson complex was undergoing a 10 million renovation and ill-equipped to host a crowd. The university's alumni association pulled together the funds to rent the Linc for the day.
After that game on April 14, Temple athletic director Bill Bradshaw said that the university was considering making the move to the Linc permanent, foreseeing that complex expansion would mean less room for fans.
But as it turned out, the university estimated that approximately 2,500 fans showed up at the Linc, 1,000 less than the 3,500 who went when the event was on campus in 2011.
In the past, the event was staged as, what Bradshaw called, a "cozy little activity" during the university's Alumni Weekend.
The game now returns to campus, allowing Temple to show off its new facility, featuring a 3,500 square-foot "team function room" and an observation balcony that runs the length of the building.
