Switched at Birth Star Katie Leclerc Tells Us About Zombie 5Ks, Scoop from the Show, and More!
The show comes back in January for season two—anything to look forward to with that?
No scripts yet, but I can say that we knew this was coming at the end of this season. I think the writers really did a great job as the trial comes to a finale—the wins, and the losses, and the way the money gets divied up—all of the things the finale sets up, I think will lend itself really well to how the next season will go.
And now the Obsessed Questionnaire...
My current obsession is... Running.
Glamour: I heard you're running a Zombie 5K? What's that? OK, so you show up on race day, and they give you a flag to wear around your waist, and then you do your 5k, and there's obstacles. Like, you have to climb up a tire ring, or I don't know, we'll find out. There's obstacles, and there's also… zombies—people that are infected—and they chase after you and try to pull your flag off. If they pull your flag, then you're infected. The other workout that I do is called power plates. It's kind of crazy—it's a big platform, big enough for you to stand on, and it vibrates 30 to 60 times a second, so basically it's a giant Shake Weight. You do pushups off of it and jumping jacks on it, and stuff like that. But what happens is you use your stabilizer muscles, so it's like an extra-special workout.
The movie I'm obsessed with is... I think the apartment that I live in—with my boyfriend and my roommate and I—our collective favorite movie is Observe and Report. The first seven times I saw that movie I didn't like it, and then it beat me into submission, and now by time 30 watching it, it's one of my favorites.
The band I'm obsessed with is... I went to this music festival in San Francisco recently called Outside Lands, and I discovered this band called Trampled by Turtles. They're rad. They're kind of like Nickel Creek, kind of bluegrass-y. Lots of instruments. Really hippie.
The meal I'm obsessed with is... I'm obsessed with food. Just food. Just keep it coming. We recently started doing this fried tofu lettuce wrap sort of situation, but we eat a lot of Asian flavors.
The TV Show I'm obsessed with is... Switched at Birth!!! Shoot, um… I'm really excited for Walking Dead to come back. I'm a big zombie fan.
The next time I have time to myself I'm going to... Probably paint my nails. I'm a little bit manicure-obsessed. My favorite are those Sally Hansen stickers where you just pop them on. Best! Super fun. And then everybody stops you… 'How did you do that?' 'Oh, it's just a sticker.'
My craziest Hollywood moment was... on the set of Switched at Birth, the props department came over to ask Lucas Grabeel if he could play baseball—I'm a closet *High School Musical *fan—so I answered for him, 'Are you kidding? He can play baseball, and sing and dance, all at the same time! You have no idea!' And I look over my shoulder, and Lucas is doing the dance and singing the song live for me in person. It was amazing. That was hands down my favorite moment.
My first celebrity crush was... Justin Timberlake. From the NSYNC days. NSYNC was my first concert, so.
The most random thing I keep with me is... For a really long time, I would carry around a deck of cards because you get bored on set.
My special talent is... I'm a really good cook. I can tap dance!
