Subject in custody after 'dangerous situation' on IU campus
By 2 a.m., IU Police gave a final update that said the situation had ended without injury and a subject had been taken into custody.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A man who barricaded himself inside the hotel at Indiana Memorial Union was taken into custody just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, hours after IU Police initially warned the public of a "dangerous situation" on the Indiana University campus in Bloomington.
In a tweet sent around 9 p.m. Monday, police warned the public of a situation taking place near the Indiana Memorial Union on campus. Police and emergency officials urged people to avoid the area.

About 25 minutes later, IU Police again tweeted about the situation, saying it was still ongoing and police were on the scene. Officers again urged people to avoid the area and follow instructions from emergency officials.

Just after 10 p.m., police tweeted that the situation involved a man who was barricaded inside a guest room at the hotel at the union. The man allegedly claimed to be holding a family hostage in the room and said he was armed with an AK-47. The BPD Hostage Negotiation Team was able to make contact with the man, but he refused to come out of the room.

Around 1:36 a.m., police used "non-lethal techniques" to get the man to exit the room and officers took him into custody.
By 2 a.m., IU Police gave a final update that said the situation had ended without injury.

No further details about the situation were given, including possible criminal charges the man might face.
