Sofia Vergara’s Real-Life Crime Story Griselda Gets Sued by Original Drug Lord’s Family for the Wildest Reason
It seems like the opinions of the fans on Netflix’s biographic crime mini-series will not be the only thing that will be troubling Sofía Vergara for a while now. The Colombian actress finally decided to leave the comedy genre and push her limits after being a popular A-lister for almost over a decade has landed herself in quite some trouble for her portrayal of Griselda Blanco in the series, Griselda.
The family of Griselda Blanco is suing Netflix and Sofía Vergara
Griselda Blanco was a drug lord kingpin who created one of the profitable eras of the cartel by smuggling cocaine through Miami, Florida and was assassinated back in 2012. Sofía Vergara who will portray the role of the ‘Cocaine-Godmother‘ in Netflix’s series, Griselda is also caught in the fire now after Griselda Blanco’s youngest son, Michael Blanco is trying to sue Netflix and Vergara for the unauthorized use of his mother’s name.
According to TMZ, Michael Blanco had done multiple interviews from 2009 to 2022 with people who were very interested in making Griselda’s life story into a series and even a book. According to Blanco, Netflix was interested in making a series about it but was not interested in using the details that had been revealed by Michael Blanco in those interviews.

However, when the trailer of the series was released it was very clear that the show “lean on a lot of his anecdotes and material but he says he never saw a dime.” Therefore, the kids are blaming Netflix for ripping them off and not even offering them compensation for using their family’s story.
Other than being the lead actress, Sofía Vergara is also the executive producer of the series Griselda which means that she is getting dragged into this lawsuit.
The Modern Family actress was initially skeptical about portraying the role of Griselda
Despite being one of the most successful actresses in the industry, Sofía Vergara was initially quite skeptical about portraying the role of the ‘Cocaine Godmother‘ in the series, Griselda. The Colombian actress has always portrayed comic roles in movies or series and this is her debut in a more dramatic and evil role. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Vergara talked about how she was quite stressed before the start of filming. She said,
“The night before I was going to start shooting, I was sitting down in the living room and I thought, ‘Why the f**k did I think I could do this?’Just because I put on a rubber nose, they’re not going to know that Gloria Pritchett is talking?’ They’re going to say, ‘Who does she think she is?’”

Griselda has received positive reviews so far with 86% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and the fans have praised Sofía Vergara for her portrayal of the drug lord in the series as well.
Griselda is currently streaming on Netflix.
