The family of a 9-year-old girl who was bludgeoned, then dismembered near Fort Wayne remained quiet a day after gruesome details of her death were revealed.
Aliahna Lemmon's step-grandfather, David Story, said Wednesday that the Allen County Sheriff's Department and the FBI told family members not to talk to anyone about her death. He says they didn't give a reason.
Sheriff's Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel confirmed deputies asked the family not to talk to the media, saying it would protect the integrity of the case.
A trusted neighbor, 39-year-old Michael Plumadore, faces a preliminary charge of murder. He made an initial court appearance Tuesday and is due back in court Friday morning.
The coroner's office says it hopes to complete a forensic examination of Aliahna's body on Wednesday.
Tuesday night, Aliahna's mother and other family members attended a vigil in her honor.
