Richard Eyimofe Evans Mofe-Damijo, popularly called RMD, is a former journalist and a Nigerian actor, writer, producer and lawyer.

In 2009, he served as the Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism.

Biography

RMD was born in Delta State on 6 July 1961.

He was a member of the Drama Club at Midwest College, Warri, and Anglican Grammar School. He continued his studies at the University of Benin, where he studied Theatre Arts. Mofe-Damijo returned to the university in 1997 to pursue a degree in law at the University of Lagos and graduated in 2004. He was called to the Nigerian bar in 2005.

Career

Richard Mofe-Damijo began acting in secondary school, but his professional career started in the late 1980s when he starred in the soap opera Ripples. The series catapulted him into the spotlight. 

He began his career as a reporter for Metro Magazine, The Guardian, and Concord Newspaper before pursuing acting professionally. RMD’s first film, Out of Bounds, became a hit and helped him acquire further recognition. 

RMD has worked alongside Nollywood legends such as Zack Orji, Stella Damasus-Aboderin, Chioma Chukwuka, Liz Benson, Sola Sobowale, Bukky Ajayi, Bimbo Akintola, and many others as an A-list actor.

In 2008, Mofe-Damijo was appointed as the Special Adviser on Culture and Tourism to then-Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State. In 2009, he was appointed as the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, Nigeria. His term was over in 2015.

RMD Production, White Water Limited, and RMD Foundation are all founded by the veteran actor. 

RMDtvng and RMDtheactor are both parts of RMD Productions. It’s an entertainment platform that creates original content, television and radio shows, and broadcasting, among other things. It is the creator of the hit sitcom Trying and the Mr X Family. It also produced Bedtime with Grandpa, a children’s show, and the talk/live shows Bridging the Gap and Made in Warri.

White Water Limited is a Nigerian public relations firm that provides consulting services.

RMD family

RMD married May Ellen “MEE” Ezekiel, a journalist and talk show host. After she died in 1996, Mofe-Damijo married TV personality Jumobi Adegbesan. Jumobi later left TV presenting for a business career. 

Mofe-Damijo is the father of five children, two from his current marriage and three from a previous marriage.
