Qatar 2022: Ronaldo cries bitterly as Morocco become first African team in World Cup semi-final
It was a bitter night for Cristiano Ronaldo as Morocco knocked out Portugal in the quarter-final stage of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
The 37-year-old was spotted crying bitterly as he made his way into the dressing room. The 2022 World Cup is his last competition for his country, and he had hoped to have a last shot at winning the most coveted trophy in football.
However, It was a night of dancing and tears of joy for Morocco, who became the first African team to qualify for the World Cup semi-final.
Youssef En-Nesyri scored for Morocco in the 42nd minute after Diogo Costa came rushing for a cross but missed.
Portugal fought hard, with Fernando Santos throwing on four attackers to find the equaliser. Joao Felix, Cristino Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Pepe missed chances to level for the Europeans.
Morocco will face the winner between France and England, who play later tonight.
