Ping G400 Max v Callaway XR Speed Drivers
I had a driver fitting today At my local range I went in with a open mind but I sort have had my mind set on a ping g400 max.
I’ve always played with titleist woods just always pleased my eye and found them solid .so I tried all sorts with different shaft combinations heads lofts ect ect it was a proper fitting Going through everything so an hour or so later the most consistent and best dispersion came down to a ping g400 max ,Callaway Xr speed. One thing I will say is the cally xr speed is beautiful behind the ball it sits lovely it’s a real looker of a club! I was just far more consistent with it than the ping and had better spin numbers with it but when I hit the ping on the button it would rocket out there giving me launch monitor figures I’ve never had before (well that’s what I thought )so the fitter pulled somthing out the hat saying “how about a couple of balls with a Taylormade m4 I’ve had some very good results fitting people with this club try it “so he put a project x black 6.5 62g stiff shaft in it and Said fire away,I was launching the ping high and spin was up a bit but getting near enough my optimum carry and roll out when I hit it well but my good hits few and far between but the m4 with the project x shaft just blew it out of the water my carry distance was up and my total distance even on a few hits where I said I didn’t hit that well it was still ending up just over 240 yards which for me is massive when I nailed one it was rolling out to 262 somtimes.
so I ended up walking out with a Taylormade m4 it was a no brainer it just performed better for me than the ping plus I was a lot striaghter with it I preferred the way it sat behind the ball too.Thats the beauty of fitting The ping is a lovely club but just wasn’t for me .
my figures with the m4 9.5deg with the project x shaft stiff (black 62g)
swing speed 96mph
carry average 237
total distance 254(average )
smash factor was 152
Spin 2105rpm (average )
14deg launch
my old titliest 915d2 was 27 yards shorter than the m4 which I couldn’t get my head around so it proves it does help to get fit properly and be open minded with it all .
