Overwatch 2 DDoS attack and server issues see 40,000 player-long queues

Overwatch 2's official launch has been entirely disrupted by DDoS attacks, leaving players in queues of 40,000 people, waiting hours to try and access the game.

Blizzard president Mike Ybarra and game director Aaron Keller have confirmed that the Overwatch 2 servers are experiencing DDoS attacks, and that the team is working hard to sort the issue.

Overwatch 2 players stuck in queues as DDoS attack on servers continues

"Unfortunately we are experiencing a mass DDoS attack on our servers," says Ybarra. "Teams are working hard to mitigate/manage. This is causing a lot of drop/connection issues."

Keller adds, "We’re steadily making progress on server issues and stability, as well as working through a second DDoS attack. We’re all hands on deck and will continue to work throughout the night. Thank you for your patience — we’ll share more info as it becomes available."

Over on the Overwatch subreddit, players have been reporting queues of 40,000 people, while others who manage to get into a game are often booted quickly out. Some players have reported other issues, including that their account progress seems to have been wiped, with skins, weapons, and everything else missing.

In other Overwatch news, Overwatch 2 has kept the original game's achievement list while adding six new achievements.
