No Way Home Feature Ned as Hobgoblin?
The Marvel community is currently alight with Spider-Man: No Way Home theories, subsequent to the feature’s first teaser trailer drop after a painfully long wait. The trailer only confirmed half of what we are expecting from this chapter, by introducing past Spider-Man villains Electro, Doctor Octopus, and the Green Goblin by way of opening of the Multiverse. The other half we’re eagerly anticipating is the appearance of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, which is certain to be quite the event.
The arrival of past villains also suggests that the iconic Sinister Six will form within No Way Home, as a final battle for Peter Parker and an epic send-off for Tom Holland’s portrayal. In addition to this behemoth theory, there is another villain that could make an appearance that we need to talk about.
Ned as Hobgoblin Theory
As we know, Jacob Batalon’s Ned has been best friends with Peter since Homecoming and through Far From Home. He’s a loyal buddy who carries a large portion of the films’ comedic weight on his shoulders, however, Ned could be turning against Peter within the mind-bending events of No Way Home.
In Marvel Comics, Ned Leeds becomes a variant of the Hobgoblin and this reveal is devastating for Peter. Further down the arc, it is revealed that Ned was actually being manipulated by the real Hobgoblin, Roderick Kingsley. This suggests that Ned could become the Hobgoblin in one of the other timelines visited by Peter when the Multiverse opens in No Way Home and Ned could be brainwashed by the Green Goblin.
Some fans also believe that the pumpkin bomb we saw thrown on the bridge in the trailer actually belongs to Ned’s Hobgoblin, who is receiving his weaponry from Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin.
Jacob Batalon’s Weight Loss
A major fact to support this theory is Batalon’s weight loss for his role in No Way Home. The actor shared his weight loss on Instagram and it was reported that he had lost 100 pounds prior to filming Jon Watts’ third feature and some believe that this was in preparation to become the Hobgoblin.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will release in theaters on December 17th.
