“No Dark Souls in the house.”: Elden Ring Creator Hidetaka Miyazaki Is Seemingly Embarrassed by His Own Games, Refuses to Let Family Play Them

Whether you’re new to the gaming industry or have been here for years, you will have most likely heard of the Dark Souls franchise and Elden Ring, with their painstaking difficulty. For a lot of gamers, Dark Souls is a challenge that’s very difficult to overcome, and there’s a valid reason for that.

Something that may shock a lot of gamers is that the president of FromSoftware Inc., Hidetaka Miyazaki, is actually rather embarrassed by his creation and has banned Dark Souls from being played in his house by his family.

Why Is Hidetaka Miyazaki Embarrassed by the Dark Souls and Elden Ring Franchises?

FromSoftware is a rather incredible developer and has been working extremely hard to make the Dark Souls, Demon Souls, and Elden Ring franchises some of the best gaming franchises within the industry, to the point that Dark Souls was even voted to be one of the best games ever created.

However, that doesn’t mean that the people behind the project are willing to expose their work and experiences to their family and friends. When a developer puts so much of their time and effort into a franchise, it makes sense that their own personal experiences and feelings sometimes sneak their way into the final product.

Without going into too much detail, it’s safe to say that Miyazaki didn’t have an easy life growing up and went through many struggles that eventually led him to where he’s now, and during the development of Dark Souls, some experiences and beliefs of his seeped their way into the final project.

For example, Miyazaki grew up with an interest in stories and using your own imagination to fill in the blanks and create the scenes that a book was unable to do. This became an important feature in the Dark Souls franchise, as players had to use item descriptions, lore items, and enemy voicelines, of which there weren’t many, in order to create the story of Dark Souls rather than having a set narrative.

Miyazaki also believes that in games like Dark Souls, death shouldn’t be a failure but instead be an achievement, providing the player with a reason to persevere through the hardship and refine their skills rather than relying on ranking up their characters to become so strong they’ll never die.

When it comes to Dark Souls, you’ll die a lot, and for many gamers, this feels like Hidetaka Miyazaki is laughing at their struggles, but instead he wants them to push through and continue the battle and get stronger. Miyazaki understands your pain and doesn’t want his family to see this side of him and his game.

Even though Miyazaki is using features like death and rebirth as a method of pushing through the challenges that stand before you, some people find this a rather irritating mindset and dislike when a game forces them to actually become good at it rather than giving them a hand.

Back when Dark Souls was originally released in 2011, this was something that many players commented on, and now with the release of Elden Ring, gamers are seeing what it’s like to have the opportunity to fight the battles they feel they can handle, rather than attempting something, failing, and trying again.

For many gamers, the Dark Souls franchise is unique and fun and has been created by a genius and a wonderful development team, but it’s understandable that he may want to keep his family from seeing the chaos and horror that’s in Dark Souls and Elden Ring, as they show a different side of him and his past experiences, which anyone in that position would also want.
