Michael Dunn Verdict: Guilty of 1st degree murder

After more than five hours of deliberations Wednesday, the jury in the Michael Dunn retrial found him guilty of the first-degree murder of 17-year-old Jordan Davis.

JACKSONVILLE, Florida — After more than five hours of deliberations Wednesday, the jury in the Michael Dunn retrial found him guilty of the first-degree murder of 17-year-old Jordan Davis.

The verdict represented a huge victory for the State Attorneys' Office which has devoted two years and prosecuted two high-profile trials in an effort to convict Dunn in Davis' death.

Circuit Judge Russell Healey told the jurors before dismissing them from his courtroom, "Thank you for your hard work so far, and your continued service and hard work as you deliberate."

Dunn, a 47-year-old South Patrick Shore software developer, was charged with first-degree murder for fatally shooting Davis the day after Thanksgiving in 2012 during their parking lot argument at a Gate gas station in Jacksonville, Florida.

In Dunn's first trial back in February, the previous jury convicted Dunn of three counts of second-degree attempted murder and one count of shooting or throwing deadly missiles for firing at Davis' three teenage companions inside a red Dodge Durango. However, the jury was deadlocked on the first-degree murder count, which led to his retrial.
