I would say it's not worth restricting your modding for the sake of performance of one mod like this one. If you find a fun mod you should add it and play with it until you encounter a severe issue. The most critical to StarNet performance are changes to vanilla districts and colony designations, and to a lesser degree buildings, actually. You can use Irony Mod Manager [bcssov. Additional content like tech is generally handled well, but new resources might require custom tweaks. If you have any technical questions you can always ask on Stellaris Modding Den [discord. Thank you for the quick answer. Is there any particular technology mod you think would go "best" with starnet or startech? I am just curious, i understand if there is none because the mods were created for vanilla tech. OldEnt [author] 28 Jul am. New ACOT is a lot more compatible but custom resources economy is unlikely to be supported. I have made provisions for Gigas lately and Gigas is having works on it as well. Thank you for this mod. But the vanilla AI does not even build labs, i honestly wonder how someone can underperforme under this conditions. Not ment as a diss or so. I mean, after all you either build alloys or invest a little bit more in science. Early on full on expansion. Depends on playstyle for people too. Also theres something to be said for it being fun sometimes to be the undisputed galactic power and not have to stress about anything. I mean I personally play on grand admiral 25x earliest crisis but for some people adjusting to the AI chats of free economy is more than they can handle. YobaiYamete [S]. Was like or so I believe, I was seeing k fleets by line if not earlier, I just noticed this stack and took a picture as an example. Startech also works with the Starnet Friendship Patch. It really helps the AI get much stronger for mid and late game. I already get wrecked in this game often, why the hell would I put this in to have an empire come in and wreck me within the first 30 years? Instead of the AI wasting all it's early game building ships, it builds buildings and tech and expands out to get nearby systems etc. After 40 years it will start thinking about going to war but won't just auto go to war unless it's a Determined Exterminator that really really hates you or something. With Starnet, the AI will just declare war on you the second they find you and come smash your 2K early game fleet with their 19K grand admiral resource fleet stack. Not fun. StarTech gives you both time to tech up and improve. I freakin' love this mod. This literally has changed the game for me and made it ridiculously fun. I completely agree and think it's worth advertising. Man even with Startech AI I am barely struggling to survive. For some reason they can develop planets instantly while my colonies are just shitty backwaters with 1 job at alloys while the rest of my economy is tanking hard in R5: image showing a single AI that has over K fleet power from just their rando scrap fleets. I often see people talking about how the game is too easy and the AI is irrelevant and they are right. I'm getting 34K research per month at the moment, and there's still AI that have technology levels that are nearly equivalent to mine. StarTech makes the AI ship builds way better too. On Vanilla you basically outscale the AI by 30 years into the game and they will never have a fleet over like 45K strength, and on StarNet they just crash their entire economy focusing on Alloys and get way behind on tech and admin cap. StarTech makes the AI wait 40 years before focusing on military, which gives them way more time to expand and build up a solid economy and infrastructure to actually support their fleet. Then when said fleet gets built, unlike Starnet where they just hit you with a wall of outdated garbage that tries to batter you down by force, they'll hit you with a wall of ships that are on equal footing or better than your own. Playing without it is so bland now, it changes the game completely when you have to face actually relevant AI. That determined exterminator custom empire you made that you spawned next to? It's actually a threat now and you'd better take it seriously, you won't just outscale it in 40 years and go steal all it's land anymore, and if you spawn with a devouring swarm, determined exterminator, and fanatic purifier on all sides? You'd better hope you actually know how to play the game because they sure do. Lower empire pop penalty so you can grow more than puny pops. Otherwise without mods it is not doable. But before 3. You can change it in the creation screen, when you start the game. People apparently haven't realized that Nihilistic Acquisition is the best perk in the game now if you don't change the pop settings. You just fly around and farm every nearby empire's pops every few decades and then don't take their stuff, then come back years later and do it again after they have regrown. Oh thanks for sharing this! I'm gonna have to try it. It's nice if the AI can play smarter and not rely so much on bonuses. Has the 40 year peace limit worked out for you? It feels kind of arbitrary, and a bit strange for genocidal empires. Which means that my AI allies often end up among the strongest AIs in the long run cooperation ftw. Will be interesting to compare to StarTech. Note, I haven't played a game with startech yet, but the way he describes it is the AI will reprioritize if another empire gets aggressive with shipbuilding. So all it takes is one swarm stirring up shit for the neighbors to switch to alloys; although whether that means the ai can actually replace buildings I don't know. Starnet does focus quite a bit on research. How far into the game are you? Which presumably doesn't happen as frequently if they focus on tech. If you are playing with mostly vanilla techs, focusing on alloys once you start doing repeatables is better for giving you a stronger military. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing my fleet power rise as my repeatables get completed - but they are very inefficient compared to base techs that give you new components or increase your resource output. Can confirm about the research part, large AI planet are often filled to the brim with labs and i have to demolish most of them after conquest. The fleet power part is also true. Commodore ai in Startech wrecked the fallen empires before and khan never spawned due to all marauders being obliterated before then as well. I'll do the same on my next run for sure. I think the dynamic difficulty mod allows for the changing the Khan and fallen empires, too. Yea but if you pick GA and advanced start ai you want to suffer. With vanilla it is the only way to make them even do anything, with starnet it is fairly painfull. Dude, I got to year only for the 2 biggest empires they were in a fed together to wreck me and my fed. I was playing on commodore with startech without scaling. It was my first run, and I was so happy to get wrecked lmaooo I think it's way easier that way than starting out on commodore without scaling. This mod made the game alot more interesting!! You can't bumrush other empires, and have to constantly check your diplomatic relationships with them, or else they start wardecing you until you either get vassalized or so small you can't compete in game. I play with Starnet because I want absolute war and carnage, as for tech I play on grand admiral so they research stuff anyway. Grand admiral won't help with tech, vanilla ai is hard coded in 3. There's is still nonstop war with startech, it's just after the 40 year mark where everyone is rushing tech. The issue with StarNet is that it will fall off because it wastes all it's time on alloys and has no economy or admin cap or infrastructure back it up. I see. Sadly I have to restart my playthru, I fked up big time with potent rebellions, as every non habitable planet was revolting, spamming a lot of useless empires.. I'll give it a try. Starnet with friendship patch. The friendship patch turns down the aggrassivness and bringts it close to vanilla in that topic but still strong with science and eco. Startech is better imo. The potentional for the galaxy in general regardless of the empire is much greater with higher tech. I've heard that it can reduce performance in late game, but I've not had any issues. I play on medium maps usually with empires, but have also done huge galaxies before. I am once again advertising StarTech AI mod as one of the best mods you can add to your game. Yeah talking about determined exterminators Leather-Ad 2 points 9 months ago Leather-Ad 2 points 9 months ago. Sadly the devs don't seem to care, and half the playerbase did not even notice it. So is it better to have both starnet and startech or are they mutually exclusive? Exclusive, I'd say try a run with one then switch and try again and see which you prefer.
