I’ll talk with Kimmo Timonen about a job – NBC Sports Philadelphia

At last, former Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen finally won the Stanley Cup.

The Blackhawks edged the Lightning, 2-0, in Game 6 on Monday night to win their third title in six years.

Timonen played just 3:39, but captain Jonathan Toews handed him the Stanley Cup. The 40-year-old is going out a champion.

On June 2, Timonen told The Philadelphia Inquirer's Sam Carchidi he would contact Flyers general manager Ron Hextall about a job with the team.

Appearing on The Comcast Network's Breakfast on Broad on Tuesday, Hextall addressed the possibility of Timonen joining the club in some capacity.

“I haven’t talked to him about it," Hextall said. "That’s one of those things — I don’t believe you talk to players until they’re done. So once he gets back here, we’ll sit down and talk. And we’ll see which direction it goes.”

Timonen spent eight years with the Flyers before Hextall traded him this season for one final shot at the Cup. The defenseman was diagnosed with blood clots last summer and his playing career was in jeopardy. But he worked hard to get back and Hextall sent him to Chicago for what turned out to be two second-round picks.

And now, a storybook ending to a storied career.
