“I have one Slam,” Paula Badosa welcomes journalist Bastien Fachan’s proposal to officially name Indian Wells a Major
The Indian Wells Open should be counted as the fifth Grand Slam competition, according to Paula Badosa. She is currently participating in the Indian Wells Open 2023. She has won this tournament once, in 2021. The Spaniard also reached the semi-final last time around. She lost to Maria Sakkari 2-6, 6-4, 1-6.
She got this idea when eminent sports journalist Bastien Fachan made the unusual suggestion that the Indian Wells Open might be considered the fifth Grand Slam in the calendar year. His proposal is justified by allowing Roger Federer to subsequently claim five more Slams increasing his career record tally to 25 Grand Slam titles.
Bastien Fachan shared this idea in his latest social media post.
“I can get behind Indian Wells being the Fifth Slam if it means Federer gets 5 more Slams retroactively,” his caption read.
Paula Badosa got fascinated with this idea. She in a light-hearted manner joked that if this happens, she will have one Grand Slam title against her name. She shared all her views on social media.
“And I have one slam…,” her caption read.
Bastien Fachan has meanwhile published a book on the Big Three-Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal recently.

The Indian Wells Open is one of the most popular and prestigious tennis tournaments after the Grand Slams. Most ranking points of any WTA tournament in a calendar year is on offer in this tournament.
Paula Badosa started her season well by participating in the Adelaide International 2 tournament but an unfortunate injury in the quarter-final round match against Beatriz Haddad Maia led to her forfeiture from the tournament. The Spaniard also decided to withdraw from both the Australian Open and Abu Dhabi Open. She returned to action in the Qatar Open; however, she is yet to find her lost form and rhythm.
She also dropped in rankings. The 25-year-old is currently ranked No.21 in the WTA rankings. Hence, winning this competition can help a great deal in her career. Meanwhile, her and Bastien Fachan’s latest posts are being received by social media users quite light-heartedly. Many are commenting on these posts. Many are also making their own suggestions. Here are a few reactions that came in.
Asia deserves a slam far more than the US a second slam

If we follow history, I think Miami would make a better case to be the 5th Slam cuz in 85 and 86 it was a 128 players draw if my memory is good.

PS : Novak and Fed would have 4,5 or 6 Slams more anyway (IW or Miami) 😭

For me, winning SunshineDouble is like winning Grand Slam, even harder. Novak has 4 ,3 in row. And i think Federer has 3 , last one won as 36years old which made him oldest ever to win it .

Although I love RF it would not be right. Slams are history, we do not need more otherwise they will become cheap and commercial. Although I reckon some M1000 are more important than others and they could achieve a special status, like premium M1000 with extra points as bonuses

By its importance, historically it would be Miami
