Animal Crossing New Horizon had been a bit stagnant for a while, but now the big 2.0 update is finally here and it allows you to get potatoes for the new cooking mechanic.

This latest update for Animal Crossing New Horizons adds a lot to the game, whether you have the free or paid update.

One of the new features is the ability to cook and you will need ingredients to do that, such as potatoes.

How To Get Potatoes In Animal Crossing New Horizons

Animal Crossing New Horizon has added many different mechanics over the last year and a half, but cooking has not been one of them. That is until now at least, with the latest update 2.0 adding in a number of new items and cooking into the mix.

Potatoes are one of the most common food ingredients in real life, so it’s no real surprise that they would be one of the choices to add into the game.

To cook with potatoes in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you first need to obtain some potatoes. To do that though, you need to grow it yourself.

Starting off, you need to head to Nook’s Cranny and head to the cabinet near the register. Interact with it and get some seeds for the potatoes for how many ever you want.

Now find an area on your island to plant the seeds and start watering them. Keep doing this and check on it until you find they have fully grown and can be harvested.

From there, you can then grab the potatoes and start using them in the new recipes in the game.

Do You Need The Happy Home Paradise DLC To Access?

Up to this point, Animal Crossing New Horizons had received completely free updates of different sizes content wise. This time around though, Nintendo decided to release two separate updates, one free and one paid.

When it comes to the new cooking mechanics in the game, all of them are thankfully included in the new free update known as 2.0.

Happy Home Paradise is the paid DLC and includes things that take place off of your island itself. Since anything with harvesting crops and cooking is in the free update, you can get potatoes without having to pay anything in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
