Go hog wild at NC Livermush Festival – WSOC TV

N. C. craft beer, a bike riding dog, a livermush eating contest … what else could you ask for in a festival? The Mush, Music and Mutts Festival, which includes the Official N.C. Fall Livermush Festival, happens Oct. 16-17 in Uptown Shelby.

The annual Livermush Festival, also a stop on the Blue Ridge Music Trails of North Carolina, has grown significantly and even changed locations several times over the past 29 years.  This year, the event will take on a two-day format beginning with a N.C. Brew Fest and Chili Cook-Off on Friday.  Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. on Washington Street.

On Saturday the Livermush Festival kicks off at 8 a.m. Try livermush pizza, smoked livermush, livermush biscuits, livermush stir fry or other interesting livermush dishes! There will also be a livermush eating contest, recipe competition and a Little Miss Livermush Pageant.

The Kids Zone will feature pumpkin painting, games, inflatables and a human hamster wheel.

Pets can also have their share of fun with a pet parade and costume contest, plus watch Norman the Scooter Dog, who will perform throughout the day.

The Earl Scruggs Center will also be open for tours from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  General admission fees apply, but are well worth the price. Be sure to check out the center’s Banjo Petting Zoo on the lawn next to the gift shop/ticket station, too.

Tickets for the N.C. Brew Fest cost $25 (must be 21 or older to purchase tickets). Admission to the Chili Cook-Off cost $10 (age 7 and under are admitted free).

Admission to the festival on Saturday is free. Click here for more details on the Livermush Festival or the Blue Ridge Music Trails of N.C.
