Get to Know Florida Georgia Line's Hot Country Duo Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard
Glamour: What part of fame were you not prepared for?
Tyler: The interviews. Nah, I'm just kidding! No, I think the amount of time we have to spend away from our family and friends back home sometimes—it was expected, but sometimes we'll think, "Wow, it has been six weeks since we've been home." It can wear you out a little bit. And to be honest, in the beginning, I didn't even know media was such a thing or involved in music. I thought as an artist you just get to go play songs every night, so it's cool and part of it, but it's something I learned that is part of this job and personally never even thought of it.
Brian: You know, it's just been so cool to see our fans rally behind us and support our music. It's amazing to see such passionate fans that stand outside and wait in line to buy tickets, or, wait, what did that person do for three hours? Oh, yeah, they waited outside and sang Christmas songs to win tickets to our show. Nobody told us how cool and passionate our fans would be.
Glamour: You both met in college. What was your first impression of one another?
Tyler: Total loser. [Laughs] Actually, we had a special connection right from when we met. During our very first song we knew there was something special there and just continued to write. We both had the same dreams and goals and wanted to do it together. It was a pretty instant connection, really a God thing, that's for sure. EHarmony really worked for us. [Laughs]
Glamour: Describe each other in three words.
Brian: Tyler is passionate, hardworking, and a friend.
Tyler: Aww, that's good man. That's very heartfelt. Brian is a go-getter, amazing hair, and definitely a hard worker for sure.
Glamour: I have to ask: serious girlfriends?
My mom: Oh, my daughter is available!
Tyler: Mom!
My mom: Haha, sorry about that!
Tyler: Well, in that case, no, we're both single!
Glamour:And that's the last time Mom comes on an interview.
Tyler: Haha, no, we both have girlfriends, so it's pretty awesome.
Glamour:How do you keep the relationship strong when you're constantly on the road? Do they come with you?
Tyler: Yeah, they come on the road quite a bit with us, travel on the bus with us—it's pretty neat. Their schedule is flexible enough that it allows them to hang out with us. They're just laid-back and easygoing, and that's exactly what it takes, especially when you're on a tour like this. It's working out great.
Glamour:Did you meet them before things really took off in your career? Because I'd imagine as you guys continue to explode, it's hard to know people's true intentions.
Tyler: Yeah, we met them before, if you want to say, [we] "exploded."
