Genshin Impact Third Party Account not yet Registered Error Explained

Several Genshin Impact players on PS4 and PS5 are currently experiencing a scary error when trying to log in, “Third party account not yet registered” which could imply your miHoYo account and PSN account were unlinked, but don’t panic, there’s nothing wrong with your accounts, and we’re here to explain what’s happening.

While the English Twitter hasn’t communicated on the issue yet, the Japanese Twitter account for Genshin Impact explained at 10:11 AM EST this is a problem with Sony’s servers and the PSN, not on miHoYo’s side. I translated the message below.

Genshin Impact Japanese Twitter: “Currently, due to a failure of the PSN, we’ve confirmed that some players cannot log in to the PlayStation version of Genshin Impact. We apologize for the inconvenience, and ask for your patience until the issue is solved”

The problem should solve itself hopefully in a few minutes, or at worst in a few hours. For now, as Goldman would say in a famous House of the Dead 2 cutscene, the only thing you can do is wait.

Genshin Impact is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, iOS, and Android. A Nintendo Switch version is also currently in development. And while it was announced in January 2020, it still has no release date yet.

Be sure to clear the story quests of the ongoing Moonchase Event if you haven’t yet. Ir reveals tons of lore including on Dendro character Yaoyao. The Moonchase Festival will be ongoing until October 11.
