Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water

This morning we reported about missing lingerie outfits in the North American version of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, but apparently Nintendo didn’t stop there.

The game features a rather well known scene in which protagonist Miu Hinasaki takes part in a mock pin-up photo shoot while wearing a revealing outfit and expressing her feelings on the fake nature of her job in a cryptic monologue.

The outift and the photo shoot aren’t even gratuitous fanservice. Miu is a gravure idol, a model who normally appears in magazines for men, focused on titillating pictures.

In the video below, provided by French website Nintendo Masters, you can see a comparison between the original Japanese version and the European version, where the bikini/lingerie has been replaced with a less revealing outfit.

It’s hard not to frown at this kind of censorship, especially considering that the in Europe the game is rated PEGI 18. I guess that all those horny 18 year old kids would have been absolutely shocked by the scene in its original form.
