Eddie Murphy had an emotional reaction to that ‘Golden Bachelor’ breakup

Eddie Murphy has some thoughts about “The Golden Bachelor.”

Murphy discussed the reality dating show during a recent interview with The New York Times. When asked what TV shows the comedian watches, the “Coming to America” star said he's "ashamed to say," before he revealed that he's member of Bachelor Nation.

“It’s not hip stuff. Every night at 6 o’clock, before I eat dinner, I watch Steve Harvey and ‘Family Feud,’” Murphy said. “I watch ‘The Masked Singer.’ My wife and I, we watch all of those shows, the singing competitions and that kind of stuff.”

Murphy then revealed another TV obsession.

“Last year, I watched all of ‘The Golden Bachelor,'" he said. "You know they broke up?”

Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist got married during a televised wedding special that aired in January to conclude the first-ever season of “The Golden Bachelor.” Three months later, Turner filed for divorce.

Murphy shared his unfiltered reaction to the split with the publication and said, “What kind of s--- is that?”

“I watched that, I was like, ‘This is so nice, they found love in the second part of their life. This is a nice show. Bravo,’” he explained. “Then I find out (they) broke up three months later! The same old s---."

Turner and Nist formally announced their split in an interview that aired on ABC News on April 12.

“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and — and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Turner said.

Nist added, “We have received so much love and support from so many people who watched ‘The Golden Bachelor,’ and I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope. We want none of that to change for anybody.”

Murphy isn’t the only celebrity who tuned in to watch the first season of “The Golden Bachelor.”

Kris Jenner and Kendall Jenner, who are self-proclaimed “big fans” of the show, had dinner with Turner in November 2023 while "The Golden Bachelor" was still airing. That dinner was captured in Season Five, Episode Three of "The Kardashians."

At one point during the episode, Kendall Jenner told her mom, “I think this is the most excited I’ve been in a really long time.”

The mother-daughter duo and Murphy will have a new couple to potentially become invested in. ABC announced in February that a spinoff, “The Golden Bachelorette,” will air its first season this fall.

The inaugural season of the show will star Joan Vassos, who was a contestant on Turner’s season of “The Golden Bachelor. According to a statement from the network, the show “will highlight one radiant woman’s second chance at love in her golden years.”
