On January 16, 2023, a Nigerian social media influencer and medical doctor, Chinonso Egemba, famously known as Aproko Doctor, posted a tweet on his Twitter handle appreciating a Lagos-based neurosurgeon, Dr. Tayo Ojo. According to the influencer, the neurosurgeon successfully conducted surgery to remove a tumour from his brain. The well-known influencer shared a video, where he revealed that he had recently had a difficult month of December 2022 owing to health concerns, which caused him to go half-blind in one eye before being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Aproko Doctor’s disclosure elicited a variety of reactions, which increased when he disclosed Dr. Ojo as the surgeon who completed the procedure. As a result, the neurosurgeon’s name began to circulate and other similar testimonies began to emerge about this medical practitioner.

Dr. Abimbola Omotayo “Tayo” Ojo is a neurosurgeon based in Lagos, Nigeria. He studied at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, and graduated with a medical degree in 1995.

After his medical studies, he completed his residency in neurosurgery at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where he attained the positions of Specialist Registrar in Neurosurgery and Head of Neurosurgery at the hospital’s Neurology Unit.

Dr. Tayo Ojo is one of the most respected neurosurgeons in Nigeria and continues to advance the discipline with research, teaching, and advocacy for neurological healthcare.
