Chinedu Nwadike: Enterprising gospel artiste who’s crossed the Jordan due to cancer

If you have danced to songs such as Oku Gbajie Aka and God of Vengeance, you may probably recognise the voice of Chinedu Nwadike. Nwadike utilised his voice for evangelical purposes and became one of the prominent stars of gospel music in Nigeria.

So, who was Chinedu Nwadike, whose remarkable stint in music, Nollywood and budding rise in politics was clipped by ill health?

Chinedu Nwadike biography

Chinedu Nwadike was born on 26 June 1983 in Imo State. He was raised in Owerri, the Imo State capital, where he had his basic education.

Career 

Nwadike was a popular gospel singer, evangelist, dancer, Nollywood actor and politician.

Although he reportedly started singing at an early age, Nwadike came into the spotlight as a dancer. He began his career as a dancer for a fellow gospel singer, Gozie Okeke. According to Nwadike, he had to rely on dancing for other musicians to get income for himself.

He later rose to prominence as a gospel singer and actor. He released several songs, with most of them enjoying massive airplay and also being played in churches.

Nwadike got involved in politics and was appointed the Special Assistant to the Governor of Imo State by the then-state governor, Rochas Okorocha. He was also a former member of the Imo State Pilgrim Board.

Family

Nwadike got married to Mrs Dorah Nwadike on August 14, 2012. 

The couple had three children, two daughters and a boy. Ifechiwku Victoria, Bryan Goodluck Chinedu Nwadike, and Chimamanda Mesel Chinedu Nwadike are the names of the children.

Sickness 

The famous gospel singer battled with blood cancer (leukaemia) and chronic kidney disease for a long time. 

Death

Chinedu Nwadike sickness

After a battle with blood cancer, Nwadike passed away in Abuja on Sunday, March 27, 2002, at an Abuja hospital. 

Before his demise, the 39-year-old musician was scheduled to go to India for more medical care after he reportedly recovered from a kidney condition. 

His friend, Darlington Chidera Ibekwe, announced the passing away of the musician in a Facebook post.

The Oku Gbajie Aka crooner had asked well-known Nigerians for financial support before he passed away. Prominent Nigerians paid him medical visits, including Senator Ifeanyi Uba and Uche Nwosu, an Imo State governorship candidate in the 2019 general election.
