American Psycho Author Almost Had a Nervous Fit After Meeting Christian Bale Before Filming of the Movie, Claimed He Was Never More Afraid

Christian Bale’s work in the 2000 film, American Psycho, is the perfect way to showcase how good of an actor he is. It is extremely well known, all of the things that the actor did to get into the character of Patrick Bateman, an extremely complicated, mentally ill, twisted man. Bale, a well-known method actor, did many things, including following his character’s morning routine throughout filming, learning how to sweat on command, and even basing his character off of real-life people.

While these methods can be respected and praised, they can also seem quite unsettling. It would seem that this feeling isn’t unique, as the author of the book that the film is based on, Bret Easton Ellis, got extremely freaked out by the actor and even begged him to stop.

Christian Bale Wanted To Meet The Author Of American Psycho

When Christian Bale was cast in the role of Patrick Bateman, in American Psycho, one of the first things that he wanted to do was meet the writer of the character he would be playing, Bret Easton Ellis. His reasoning behind this was to make sure that the writer was content with the casting choice and satisfied by the actor who would be playing a character that he deeply cared about.

Oddly enough, however, Bale chose to do a very odd thing when meeting the author. The actor decided that he would go completely into character. This included him being dressed and groomed as Bateman. The actor went as far as to introduce himself as the character.

Bret Easton Ellis Hated This

It is only natural that the author of American Psycho, Bret Easton Ellis was extremely freaked out when he saw this, that he spent years, writing a character, imagining exactly what he looked, like in his mind, only to see him in real life, talking to him. It is quite surprising, however, how much the writer hated seeing this.

It was revealed that within 10 minutes of this happening, Easton Ellis was begging Bale to stop what he was doing. It was revealed that the writer had started to shake, was not able to keep his hands still, and could not physically take it anymore. Later on, Easton Ellis described this, as one of the most terrifying, creepiest moments of his life.
