Almost on the Verge of Bankruptcy, Dave Bautista Asked His Kids to Lend Him Money Until $30B Franchise Saved Him: “I barely worked in 3 years”
There is no end to the ups and downs in an actor’s life. These damp patches are a part and parcel of their life. Dave Bautista is no stranger to this period of confusion. The Dune star has had his fair share of struggles in the industry. There was a period of time when things seemed to be going sideways for him. It was a difficult time for him, with him going through a torrid run. Things seemed to be going off the tracks for him. But it all took a turn with one role.
Dave Bautista’s humble beginnings
Dave Bautista made a name for his himself with his exploits in the rings of the wrestling world. The journey of course wasn’t easy. The 54-year-old had a tough childhood. Money was not easy to come by. The environment he grew up in was not the most conducive to his growth.
Bautista would not let these factors inhibit his development. Powering through a tough childhood, he would climb up the ladder, finally managing to become a pro wrestler. And what a run it was for him on the mat.
A torrid run
Right until switching from the world of wrestling to the glitz and glamor of acting, Dave Bautista continued to rule the hearts of fans. He was one of the most iconic wrestlers out there. But that was in the past now. His acting days lay ahead of him.
The only catch was they were not progressing as much as he would have wanted them to. For the first 3 years, the Army of the Dead star would feature in only 4 films. Things looked bleak indeed.

Guardians of the Galaxy saved Dave Bautista
It would all be turned around though. That dry spell would come to an end by bagging the role of Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy. In an interview with IGN in 2021, he said,
“When I got the role of Drax in Guardians, I barely worked in three years… And then when I got [cast], not only because I was broke, [everything changed]. When I say broke, my house was foreclosed, I had nothing, man. I sold all my stuff. I sold everything that I made from [when] I was wrestling. I had issues with the IRS. I was just lost in everything.”
The My Spy actor’s career would never be the same.
