What happens in Allen Avenue?
Allen Avenue is the place that never sleeps, always bubbling with life and activity. There is always something to see and someone on the street, whether it is during the day or night. A lot of business goes on at Allen Avenue, both during the day and night; it all depends on the kind of business you are interested in.
During the day, the area is characterised by numerous banks, hawkers, sellers, fast food joints, shops, boutiques, hotels, restaurants, etc. There are people in the area from bureau-de-change operators calling you to come and change dollars to food vendors by the roadside. Over the years, the commercial strip constantly changes as one building or market gets demolished occasionally. Hence, things are always in motion there.
However, as the sun goes down and the sky gets darker, Allen Avenue takes on a darker reputation as it moves from a commercial hub to a space where women sell their bodies for money and men who seek to satisfy their fleshly desires come around. At night, it is no place for kids. One thing is a constant, though, business goes on during the day and night. To keep the nightlife bubbling, hot and spicy suya is being sold along the road, and banks are well-lit with lights from their automated teller machines (ATMs) illuminating the street, enticing you to withdraw and spend your money on the pleasures the night has to offer.
