Many people see a lot of celebrity marriages as synonymous with divorce. This is because their private lives are always on social media. Marriages crash every day in every other sector like banking, medical, religion, etc. Both celebrity divorce often attracts much noise and attention from many people. Some had very messy divorces, while others managed to keep their divorce on a low.

Below is a list of some divorced celebrity couples in no particular order.

Dr. Sid and Simi

Dr. Sid and Simi

Simi and Dr. Sid, a Nigerian music star, tied the knot in 2014 in one of the most publicised celebrity nuptials. They welcomed their first daughter, followed a few years later by a second one. 

Trouble in their marriage was first reported in 2017, but the couple stayed away from public drama. In January 2020, Simi took to her Instagram page, where she announced that their marriage was over. 

Sid has not spoken publicly about his divorce to this point.

Osas Ighodaro and Gbenro Ajibade

In a TV show’s pilot episode, Ighodaro and Ajibade married to the joy of their viewers and the media. 

The wedding ceremony for the couple was so large that it was broadcast live on television. 

Osas and Gbenro admirers and followers in February 2019 awoke to the latter’s somewhat peculiar post. He criticised Osas’ parenting style in his piece. They were definitely apart at that point. 

Osas removed Gbenro’s name from her Instagram handle a few months later. Gbenro returned to Nigeria in December after spending several months in the US, and he celebrated by confirming their divorce in an interview with Rubbin Minds.

Toke Makinwa and Maje Ayida

Toke Makinwa and Maje Ayida

Media star Toke Makinwa and her ex-husband Maje Ayida’s turbulent marriage was ultimately annulled by an Igbosere High Court in Lagos in October. 

Toke and Maje wed in 2014; however, as of November 8, 2015, they stopped cohabitating. 

In her autobiography, “On Becoming,” Toke revealed specifics of her failed marriage. 

The book also described what happened in the purported love triangle between Ms. Solomon, who was accused of being responsible for the marriage breakdown, her estranged husband, and herself.

Many people hoped that it was a publicity stunt when it was revealed in April 2017 that Mercy Aigbe’s marriage to Lanre Gentry was on the verge of failure, even though photographs of her beaten face were all over the blogosphere. 

She is said to have bled after a fight between the pair, which caused Mercy to decide to assault Lola Akande’s office, the Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, to report the incident. 

After then, Mr. Gentry was held in the Lagos prison Kirikiri. After failing to show up twice, the hotelier, 52, eventually made his appearance in court. After that, he was kept behind bars until he could post N500,000 in bail and provide two Lagos-based sureties of people who live in Lagos and have landed properties.

He was given bail after his arraignment at an Ikeja magistrate court on a three-count charge of domestic violence, assault, and threat to life. 

After seven years of marriage, the couple welcomed a son into the world. It was Gentry’s third marriage, but it was Mercy’s second. In a candid interview with BroadwayTV, the actress revealed their split after accusing her spouse of physical abuse that she claimed damaged her sight and caused her to bleed internally for more than three weeks.

Tonto Dikeh and Olakunle Churchill

Until their marriage’s breakdown in January 2017, everything between Tonto Dikeh and Olakunle Churchill went according to plan. Later on, the actress would reveal unsavoury details of her marriage. 

She published images to support her assertions as well. Her husband refuted her claims, saying he never mistreated the actress and that he was actually a victim of a drug-addled lady. 

The pair has persisted in defaming one another and posting embarrassing photos of themselves online. Unquestionably, their divorce is the messiest involving a Nigerian celebrity in recent memory.

Despite the couple’s evasiveness over their union’s status, there have been a few small signs that they had separated. 

They both stopped bragging about their relationships and families on social media for a period. Instead, their Instagram photo captions show that they are currently starting their unique paths. 

On a boat tour in Manhattan, New York City, the 36-year-old Ghanaian celebrity proposed to Adegbite in August 2014. In 2015, the couple exchanged vows on February 14 at the La Villa Boutique Hotel in Accra. 

The Ghanaian star finally revealed that his marriage was finished after months of rumours and denials. In September, he revealed it on BellaNaija.

Lilian Esoro and Ubi Franklin

Their relationship had been difficult from the beginning. It is said that Lilian initially rejected Ubi’s marriage proposal and that she had done so before she was persuaded to accept. 

Before friends in the business persuaded her to accept Ubi, she had also erased her Instagram account and gone into hibernation. Unfounded rumours circulated when Lilian was in love with a well-known married comedian. 

They got married in November 2015 but divorced less than a year later, just before their kid turned one.

Talented Nigerian dancer, musician, and model Korra Obidi. In 2018, she wed Dr. Justin Dean, an American chiropractor. 

Dean declared in March 2022 that he was ending their marriage, so it only lasted four years. 

Korra and her ex-husband first connected in China via popular dating app, Tinder. The American man, 34, claimed that his ex-wife emotionally and verbally harmed him (Dean) due to their separation.

Surprisingly, in 2015, the couple made their divorce announcements.

In 2016, she went by Toyin Abraham instead of Toyin Aimakhu. She said her family had made the choice to change their name.

She became involved with Kolawole Ajeyemi, another Nollywood actor. In 2019, Toyin Abraham and Kolawole Ajeyemi had a traditional introduction. Although they were not yet legally married because her divorce from her husband hadn’t been finalised then, the two are now happily married and have a son.

The actor tied the knot to fashion designer Maureen Esisi, known as Redvigor, in 2015. They announced their split in 2019, and in 2022, the actor announced on his social media that he was getting married again.

After his brief marriage with actress Tonto Dikeh, Churchill tied the knot secretly with actress Rosy Meurer in 2020. They announced their marriage publicly after two years which sparked a lot of controversies as Rosy Meurer was said to have been the reason his marriage to Tonto did not last. She has come out to refute those claims. The couple is blessed with a son.

Actress, producer, television personality, and media figure Monalisa Chinda hails from Nigeria. Dejo Richards was the subject of her first union. The marriage did not endure because it ended earlier than intended. 

In 2009, after having a kid together, the couple divorced. In 2016, she later got married to Victor Tonye Coker.

Film actress and producer Akindele-Bello Olufunke Ayotunde, also referred to as Funke Akindele or Jenifa, is from Nigeria. One of the many famous people who have been married more than once is Funke Akindele. Funke wed Adeola Kehinde Oloyede on May 26, 2012. After only one year of marriage, the couple filed for divorce in July 2013. 

Akindele then married Nigerian rapper Abdul Rasheed Bello, better known by his stage as JJC Skillz, in London in May 2016, four years after her divorce from Oloyede. The couple have a set of twins. However, JJC Skillz recently took to his social media to announce his separation from the actress.

Nigerian actor, director, and model Stephanie Okereke Linus is also a model. 

In 2004, the stunning actress wed former Super Eagles defender Chikelu Iloenyosi. The marriage, however, disintegrated in 2007. 

Okereke wed Linus Idahosa in a private ceremony in Paris, France, in April 2012, in front of numerous Nollywood celebrities and members of her family.
