3 arrested after shootout at Brandon apartment complex
Detectives found more than 60 shell casings and a magazine after a shootout on June 10 at Lakewood Place Apartments.
BRANDON, Fla. — Deputies have arrested three men and recovered three guns after an investigation into a shooting at a Brandon apartment complex last month.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said that 24-year-old Jawuan Malik King and 21-year-old Devin Dominique Smith were involved in the shootout and each are facing several charges.
A third man, 21-year-old Luis Monge, had already been arrested.
Detectives found more than 60 shell casings and a magazine after a shootout on June 10 at Lakewood Place Apartments.
Monge was arrested after investigators explained they found him driving a gray Kia Sportage, which was a car identified by witnesses and surveillance video during the shootout. A Smith & Wesson pistol was found inside the car.
Deputies added that he later confessed to having a gun and firing it inside the apartments. He was also treated for a gunshot wound.
Monge is a six-time felon, according to the sheriff's office. He's facing several gun-related charges, including discharging a firearm in public or residential property.
As for King, the sheriff's office said he is a two-time felon. He's facing ten charges, including six for outstanding warrants.
Smith is also facing several gun-related charges. Deputies said he's never been convicted, but has previously been charged with eight felonies.
Along with the Kia Sportage, investigators said witnesses and surveillance video revealed two other vehicles involved in the shooting:
- 2016 Red Honda Accord bearing no Florida Tag VIN: 1HGCR2F5XGA207227
- White Chevrolet Malibu
A press release says an investigation is still ongoing and more charges could be coming.
