(USA TODAY) -- After campaigning for years for a sequel to Finding Nemo, Ellen DeGeneres, who voices the forgetful blue tang, is finally getting her Finding Dory. Ellen surprised Disney fans at the D23 expo in Anaheim, Calif. to help preview the movie and introduce its new characters and their voices.

"This is so exciting for me," she said. "I'm so proud of this film. I'm so excited for you to see this."

Those characters are…

  • Hank, the cantankerous octopus (well, septapus, because he's missing a leg), voiced by Ed O'Neill, who joined Ellen onstage
  • Bailey the misguided beluga whale, voiced by another Modern Family star, Ty Burrell, who also presented on the D23 stage
  • Destiny, a kind-hearted whale shark voiced by Kaitlin Olson, who stopped by, as well
  • Dory's parents Jenny and Charlie, voiced by Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy

And here's what we know about the story:

Dory, who suffers from short-term memory loss, has vague recollections of her parents. She decides she must go find them, and ends up in a marine institute where animals are cared for. That's where we meet the new creatures.

Disney shared clips of the movie at D23, including one where Marlin (Nemo's dad) tells Dory he knows a guy who can help her find her parents, and one where Dory interacts with O'Neil's Hank, who tries to convince her to give him the tag that's on her fin. (O'Neil makes a fantastic octopus.)

Finding Dory hits theaters June 17, 2016.
